How to Register Your Mobile IMEI Number in Nepal

Have you registered your IMEI number in NTA (Nepal Telecommunications Authority)?

If you have registered your IMEI number in NTA, then it's great but if not, then Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards of Nepal like NTC, Ncell, SmartCell will not work on your mobile phone because now (from 1st Shrawan 2078) Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) has been implemented in Nepal.

Do not be upset! Today in this post, I am going to show you how to register your mobile IMEI number in NTA.

But, before showing how to register your mobile IMEI number in NTA, let me tell you about NTA, MDMS, IMEI. I'll also explain how does an IMEI number work, and what are the benefits of IMEI number registration.


What is NTA?

Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is the telecommunications regulatory (or organizing) body of Nepal. It has been established in February 1998 as per the Telecommunications Act, 1997 and Telecommunications Regulation, 1998. Its objective is to make telecommunications services reliable and easily available to the public.


What is MDMS?

MDMS is a mobile device management system, which monitors compliance with organizational policies and remotely monitors wiping or locking of devices. It operates through direct coordination of telecom operators, phone manufacturers, police departments, etc.


What is an IMEI number?

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is the identification number of a mobile phone that is distinct from any other device.

This number is also found in GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), CDMA (Code-division multiple access), and iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network), and some satellite phones. This number is in 15 digits but sometimes 16 and 17 digits also. In which the model of the device of the mobile phone, its place of manufacture, and the serial number of the mobile device are written.


How does an IMEI number work?

Tells the current status of the phone from the IMEI number of any phone, that is, through this, it can be found out where that person is standing. If a person's mobile is lost or stolen, then the IMEI number written under the battery of that phone can be traced to that phone.


Advantages of an IMEI number registration

  • The biggest advantage of an IMEI number is in catching criminals.
  • In case someone's phone is stolen, the thief can be caught with the help of this IMEI number.
  • Mobile payments will be secured with each owner's identity database.
  • A grey market or dark market phones will be reduced, which encourages more authoritative brands and channels.

How to register your mobile IMEI number in NTA

Here are the steps that help you to register an IMEI number in NTA:


1. Find the IMEI number of mobile

To register your IMEI number in NTA, you need to find the IMEI number on your mobile.

To find your mobile IMEI number, go to your mobile dial pad and enter *#06# then the IMEI number of your mobile will be displayed.

2. Go to the IMEI registration page of NTA

Click on the link to go to the IMEI registration page of NTA: https://eir.nta.gov.np/

After clicking on the link, the IMEI registration page of NTA will open.

Click on the "Know Your Device" button.

3. Check IMEI number registration status

Enter your IMEI number in the box below "Enter IMEI Number," and click the "Submit" button.

After clicking on the "Submit" button, NTA will process your IMEI number to show whether it is registered or not.

Note: Processing time may take 5-10 minutes. So don't cancel and restart the page until it shows your registration status.

When the processing is complete you will see in the result "IMEI number of your mobile device is already registered in NTA" If your IMEI number is registered, but if your IMEI number is not registered, you will see in the result "IMEI number of your mobile device is not registered in NTA."

4. Go back to the IMEI registration page of NTA

Go back to the IMEI registration page of NTA and click on the “Sign Up” button.

After clicking on the “Sign Up” button, a prompt will open and in that prompt, there will be two options "New Importer and Individual Application."

Click on the "Individual Application" button.

5. Fill and submit the application

Fill the individual application registration form properly and finally click on the “Submit” button.

6. Check whether the application has been submitted or not

If your application is successfully submitted you will see "Your application has been send to Authorized Department."

Your application has been submitted, if you have submitted your application properly then your IMEI number will be registered within few hours but in some cases, it takes few days.

For confirmation, you can check your IMEI number whether it is registered or not as mentioned in step 3 above.
